Pete and I were married in 2012. We met in 2005. We took a "friends
first" approach to our relationship and had a long courtship as we each
have children and are both completely committed to the well being of
our kids so we never wanted to make decisions for our own benefit that
would negatively impact them. However, we knew in 2005 that we had
something special; it was truly the handiwork of God that brought us
together. We had both been completely broken in spirit in our previous
marriages and really never dreamed that we would find another human
being that would so perfectly compliment each of us; augment our
attributes, amend our flaws and share our goals. It has been an uphill
battle throughout most of our journey but there has never been a resting
spot where we looked back upon it all with an ounce of regret. We live
each and every day in complete gratitude for what we have.
Within
the first week of meeting we started having the "what if"
conversations...what if we can really make this work. It was during that
time that adoption first came up. In that first week of our
relationship we were sitting in Pete's car just talking about our lives
and our goals when Pete said: "I have two sons and I don't really think I
am going to have more children although I have always known that I
would walk my daughter down the aisle on her wedding day, I can just see
it in my head so clearly but there is something weird
about the vision I have...."
He looked at me like he was
gauging my reaction and without even thinking I said: "when you lift
her veil your daughter is Chinese?"
He screamed "YES" and then we both started shouting "HOW DID YOU KNOW" "This is CRAZY!"
We really had goose bumps!
This was the first time it came up. Amazing!
I
told him that I always knew I wanted to adopt and now that I was a
divorced parent I felt I would try to do it on my own as a single Mom.
At that time Pete said: "why as a single Mom, what about me?"
We have never lost site of our shared goals to adopt it has been a consistent plan over the last eight years.
Pete
and I have three sons between us that we adore. They are amazing young men.We are so excited to finally be bringing our little girl home to make our family complete!
